Arts Parcours

The new talents arts parcours is showcasing works of 25 artists in various locations around the Cologne cultural quarter around Neumarkt. The majority of the exhibition is this year concentrated on the new arts center t.a.t new talents. A subterranean exhibition focusses works that incorporate digital media and moving images. In addition there will be four performances (see below).

Evamaria Schaller focuses the view on liminal places with her performances. On the balconies of the exhibition tower and neighbouring buildings she broaches the issue of transition processes. In her performance she twists perspectives and opens up new lines of sight for the viewer. At the same time the viewer is also integrated into new communication channels. Her work thrives on interaction with the audience, and so the possibility of failure is a fixed part of it.

In her performative walk through the cultural quarter at Neumarkt Evamaria Schaller opens the view on the trivial and commonplace. She utilizes typical passage locations as her stage. Urban everyday-routines are questioned and non-places in the public space explored together. The strangely de-dynamitized quarter right off Neumarkt is transformed to a place of lingering and interconnection, instead of just serving as a passage location.

In her presentation-like performance, Vanja Smiljanic reflects on how affiliation to a group or conscious segregation define social identity. Magical-ritualistic objects are used to contact higher beings in the universe. The question remains if the new-found paradise fulfills expectations and offers redemption.
